Who is Rob Huijbers?

As a young boy I visited large parts of Europe with my parents. Little did I know that from the age of 23 onwards I increasingly felt the need to discover new places. According to Polar Steps, I have now visited 110 countries, traveled approximately 700,000 kilometers and have been abroad for a total of 6 years. Traveling has become a passion that I pursue 12 weeks a year in combination with my job as a university lecturer in Marketing, Sales and Business Development. From traveling as a single backpacker, to traveling as a couple, to now traveling with my family. I like to share my experiences with others. Situations change, but not the drive to discover fun and interesting new places.

I offer a number of travel services through this page:

  • Robs Travel Advice (this website)
  • Robs Travel Channel (youtube.com/robstravelchannel1)

If you have any questions, please send a message via this website or socials.

Rob's Travel Advice

I like to provide advice to people who are going on holiday or go for traveling. You can think of: tickets, places to stay, activities (nature/culture), transport, food/drinks and for example, documentation. This for all target groups and in forms of city trips, backpacking, beach holidays, etc. weekend, midweek, several weeks, longer periods, just ask me and I will help you.

Based on my experiences and contacts, I create a detailed brochure for the area you want to travel to and offer the opportunity to talk to me. This is possible via a BASIC PACKAGE of 39,95 euros (brochure and a call) or a PREMIUM PACKAGE of 59,95 euros (more detailed brochure, multiple calls and possibly even with reservations).

To get a feel for my travel experiences, you could take a look at Robs Travel Channel on YouTube (see various playlists per continent) and, for example, my Facebook page Robs Backpack Travels.

YouTube Rob's Travel Channel

I have been recording my travels digitally since 2008, first through short videos and later vlogs. You can subscribe to my YouTube channel for free (see various playlists per continent). In about 600-plus vlogs I show where I have been, what I saw and experienced there. If one of my vlogs has piqued your interest and you would like to know more about it, please let me know.

Rob's Backpack Travels

Since 2019, I have been organizing backpacking group trips to more unspoiled places such as Iran, Morocco, Macedonia/Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia, Serbia, Romania or elsewhere. Since 2025, I will only do this on request and, just like with my travel advice, I will develop a tailor-made proposal in which I can participate if that is needed.  If you are interested please let me know. Take a look at my YouTube vlog channel to see how these trips go (Vlogs Iran, Albania, Bosnia, Serbia and Romania).

Finally, we can always call to discuss the above. Relevant tips and sites/apps to visit before you go:

  • You can check airline tickets via Skyscanner.com, a collection site for all tickets and therefore easy to compare between intermediaries that sell tickets (you can buy them directly or with an intermediary, check the intermediary's reviews carefully)
  • Booking.com to book the a hostel, hotel or apartment or otherwise (always book with free cancellation, try to reserve this at least a week before the start)
  • TripAdvisor (you can select restaurants by score, price and type of food). If you choose a euro sign and a score of 5, often only the local places remain. By the way, this is the app to find extra activities
  • Airbnb, if you really want to spend the night with a local, these people often also have good tips (you can see this in the super host ranking)
  • Car rental, for example Europe Car, choose a party with good insurance and book it up front
  • Always take a credit card and a maestro card with you, be especially careful with taxis that you either agree on a fixed price or really pay attention to the meter, just turn on Google Maps so that he does not travel extra km to earn extra
  • Download Google Maps in the Netherlands in advance, the same for Maps.me, also a location app, easy to use in city centers
  • Google translate app can also come in handy, if the country is outside the EU I would always go for a local SIM and roam with it
  • The Polar steps app is fun to use, ideal for photo storage on GPS and they will later put together a photo book for you for a few euros.

Rob's Reviews / Customer Experiences

Jasper Vork - Iceland - September 2023

I had to organize a trip for my year club and Rob helped me with this. Through a conversation and brochure (custom made) I knew exactly what we wanted to do, where to sleep and how to reserve/book everything. Additionally, his general travel tips were useful. In 5 years I will have another lustrum trip, we will talk to each other. Thanks man! Greetings, Jasper Vork

Sam Mehlbaum – Slovenia – July 2023

Once a year I go out alone and usually I go horse riding somewhere in Europe. Now I wanted something different, to the former Yugoslavia. I just didn't know which country was best to go to. After I had contact with Rob, he told me that Slovenia most resembles Western Europe, is beautiful and very accessible. It turned out to be nice towns, lakes, lots of nature, stable weather and hospitable people. Rob had put together a program for me with unique places and I even visited locals! Thanks Rob

Ralf Mastwijk - Croatia - May 2023

Nice site! I highly recommend Rob Huijbers' travel advice. He helped us (family) a lot when we went on holiday to Croatia 👍🏻.

Sanne & Marco – Croatia (Split and islands) - May 2022

We knew that Rob has been visiting special places for years (according to him on Instagram) and that former Yugoslavia and Morocco are his favorites. After a short consultation, we decided on a city trip to Split and the beautiful islands off the coast of Croatia. We enjoyed the wonderful weather, the vibe in the city, the beach and of course the islands. We would do this again in a heartbeat, we had a plan on three pages and it all fit together nicely. See you soon Rob

Timmy Gijselhart - Serbia - July 2023

Rob was my teacher at school, he always talked about his travels. Ultimately I started to get the feeling that this would be something for me. His interpretation is different than if you go on regular trips, so different and unique. You really visit different places, get more value for money and come into contact with locals more often.

Dennis Verbaandert - Bosnia - July 2022

I have been on the road several times through or with Rob, and I experience a completely different way of celebrating a holiday. One moment it is a holiday and the next moment we have to arrange everything (group trip). I want to make a request to him for a city trip with friends next year, let's see what we come up with. Thank you Rob

Floar Kycyku - Kosovo - juli 2020

Thanks for your advice! I wish you all the best and hope to stumble upon you sometime. Best regards, Floar from Kosovo

Loes de Koning - Albania - October 2019

Rob is my husband, he knows everything about traveling! He has already taken me to so many places that I would otherwise not have visited, he has a nose for unspoiled places, is spontaneous in contact with locals and can organize and plan well. If you have any questions, just send a message and have a chat. On a roll!

Johan Smulders - Iran - May 2019

I have known Rob for years, I met him for the first time in Moscow just before we boarded the Transmongolie Express together. That was a great experience. He then organized a trip to Iran that I took part in, I found myself in a bizarre new environment with all kinds of hospitable people, a completely different world. Now he has planned a trip to Bahrain for me because I am increasingly attracted to the Arab world. Cool stuff Rob!
